There is a great and easy way to acquire free decor for your enclosures. Go outside! There are lots of fallen logs, rocks, sticks, etc, outside that can be very useful and attractive in your terrariums. However, make sure you only take these things from places you can. It is illegal to remove or take anything from certain places, so be aware of that.

But once you found your desired item, you need to make sure they are safe and not harboring any harmful parasites, bacteria, fungus, etc that can harm your animal. For things like rocks and wood, first, remove completely all debris (e.g. dirt, leaves, etc.) with soap and water. Then cook the item(s) in the oven at 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-30 mins. Don’t let it catch on fire! We have never had this happen before, but wood does burn. After that, make sure it cools down and safe to remove, and voila! You just saved money and have new decor for your animal! Just keep an eye on it to make sure nothing comes back and infects the enclosure or the animal.
